"Great gadget for kids, college students & adults!" 2010-02-03
By Beantown (Boston, MA)
Bought 2 of these as xmas gifts. One for my 11-yr-old niece & the other for my 21-yr old daughter in college. They both love it - it was their favorite gift. Extremely easy to use, just turn it on & press the red button. The niece uses it for fun at home & school as well as having her father film her hockey games. She has learned how to upload and save files using it. It doesn't get a real close up of her on the ice but it's not bad and it handles the fast motion of skaters very well. The sound is decent too.

My 21-yr-old daughter is in a dance group at college and films her dance routines with it and then effortlessly uploads them to youtube and the school's website. Often she just asks random folks in the audience to take the video it's that easy (very easy to hold). The nice thing about it is that you can also get a still photograph from it by pausing the video and taking a snapshot of a frame (it doesn't actually take still photos). I'm not sure if you can save that as a file or not but she's given me photos on paper of my cat, her dance group, etc!

I was worried about getting the model that uses AA batteries vs the rechargeable kind but have been happy with my decision. It was cheaper & I liked that you could get AA batteries anywhere if need be. We have been happy with the battery life. It's durable & portable. I've used it myself filming my attic (pre & post insulation - exciting stuff) in very low light conditions and was quite impressed. Amazon had the best price at the time compared to big box club warehouses (may have been a gold box deal).

"Great choice for older kids! Great for the beach!" 2010-02-03
By William W. Davis
QUICK SUMMARY: After having this a month now, I can attest to how great this product is -- not because of the amazing video quality (it's just okay), but the cost/performance value is remarkable. It's great for older kids who can take care of their electronics, and it's a great choice for outdoor scenes which might otherwise damage more expensive video equipment. Highly recommended!

I bought this Flip camcorder as a Christmas present for my 11yo daughter. She loves it, and so do I! It was her most expensive Christmas present, and (happily) it's the one she's still using one month after Christmas. Because *she* has a videocamera, we're getting family videos created that are absolutely hilarious, as she's able to capture the craziness of a house filled with four young children. I love the extemporaneous shots she's getting of kids being kids. Awesome!

I love that the camera is portable enough to easily take it to the beach, where I would otherwise not have my much more expensive Canon HD camcorder. I'm afraid of the salt spray coming off the beach to bring my expensive Canon camcorder, but this Flip is easy to take to the beach -- we're not obsessed over keeping the lens clean, and when it gets dirty, we just use a tee-shirt to wipe it off. The plastic housing over the actual lens is easily cleaned. I plan on bringing my daughter's Flip camcorder on an annual Appalachian Trail hike I take each summer, where I have previously avoided taking my expensive camcorder because I'm worried about it getting damaged. Now, I'd be disappointed if this Flip camera broke, but it's inexpensive enough that it could be replaced pretty easily.

The software that comes with it is simple to install and use. My kids intuitively knew how to load videos into the kids' computer, and I was very surprised at how clear the individual video frames looked -- good enough to make a 4x6 print from. This was a wonderful way of getting some amazing shots of my son launching a vinegar-and-baking-soda bottle rocket in our backyard.

The Flip won't replace your better-quality video equipment, but it's a wonderful addition to your existing equipment. Every family with (responsible) children ought to have a Flip to help capture family life at home.

Highly recommended!

"Love my Christmas toy!" 2010-02-03
By C. and L. Shepard

My wife gave me the Flip for Christmas, as Santa usually brings at least one new "gadget" each year. This one was a winner! I can have it handy to shoot at a moments notice, unlike my bulky Canon Rebel XTi. True, the pictures are not quite the same quality as with the Canon, but for the price and convenience, amazingly clear and "viewable". The video portion is very good, and without the hassle of the Sony videocam that we own. I am thoroughly enjoying my Flip.

"Huge Flip Fan" 2010-02-03
By R. Friel
Love, love, love this product. I attend a lot of concerts and use the Flip to capture memories. Prior to the Flip, I just used my digital camera's video mode. This is so much easier. The display screen is big enough that I can watch the concerts without feeling like I've been watching the camera the entire show. The sound quality is fantastic. It filters out a lot of background noise. Most times I can sing along and you can't hear me, and the bands still sound perfect and not at all muffled. It has a wonderful stabilizer. The thing I hated about my digital camera's video mode is that I would get shaky or people would bump me. The Flip takes care of a lot of that. It is so easy to use with only a couple of buttons to push. The software is easy to use, too. It includes a feature that allows me to pull still shots from the video, making my digital camera unnecessary. The only thing I wish this camera had was a long-life, rechargeable battery that is standard with the kit.

"My First HD Camcorder" 2010-02-01
By Harpreet Sohal (Alta Loma, CA USA)
Canon VIXIA HF200 HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 15x Optical Zoom is a good product. I bought this product about a month ago and took lot of time working on this camcorder. I like the image quality and the video that it takes. Good size, and is portable. The only drawback I see it the pixela software it comes with to download this image. This one needs DVD -R for writing the DVD's. When I first installed the software, it downloaded the videos fine but did not allow me to edit or burn it. Maybe it didn't liked my m/c. So I use it only for downloading the videos and then I use Nero to burn it to HD DVD. If I have to use it as normal video to share it with friends and family, I convert it to .avi file and then burn it via Nero.
Other than that I like the product in general. I was amazed and surprised by the clarity of the video. The camcorder itself is very light. I have used it with 16gb card and had not came to a situation of card being full. The controls are easy to use once you get a handle of it. The component cable that comes with the camera is a good. Other than the software issue I like this camcorder.

"Super Small and Lightweight" 2010-01-30
By Daniel Lelievre (Korea)
Surprised by how compact this was. I already owned a 16gb SDHC memory card so I bought the HF200, not the HF20. I think it is still cheaper to buy the HF200 and then buy your own memory.

"Battery has short life and can only be charged in camera. Canon should send wall charger with camera." 2010-01-24
By Sue Barnett (Pickwick Dam, America, TN.)
I did a lot of research and decided on this Canon Camcorder. We used it during Christmas with grandkids and the only problem was the life of the battery. You can only charge the battery while it is in the Camcorder, not good. Canon should provide a was charger. We are not professional Video geeks but when the shots we made we played on the 55" Samsung they looked great.

"Horrible video quality, I returned this camcorder" 2010-01-22
By M. Salvo (Sacramento, CA)
I researched various camcorders for months weighing features I wanted and ended up choosing this camcorder. It was very easy to use, but the video quality was so horrible, especially when you look at areas of the picture that transition between light and dark, it is heavily pixelated and almost distorted parts of the scene. I was planning on using this primarily indoors under standard lighting conditions, but no way. I ended up returning this and was left with very few options since this camcorder was so highly rated. I ended up going with the Panasonic HDC-HS250k because it has 3 CMOS sensors vs the 1 the Canon has. Sure that camcorder has it's issues, but the video quality is leaps and bounds over the Canon.

Pros: Mic in, remote, easy menus, lots of manual features. mini hot shoe.
Cons: Video quality is unacceptable, even point and shoot cameras take better video. You have to have the camcorder charging before connecting it to the computer or else you cannot get your files off the SD card (it's easier if you have an SD card reader).

I cannot believe Canon woould make such a poor product, I have had Canon still and video cameras for years and never have I had such a miserable experience with one as I did with this. Thanks to Amazon's awesome return policy I was able to get something that I needed.
