     "A Wildlife Walk Companion" 2010-04-09

    By bouledoux

I've owned a number of cameras, film and digital, including a Nikon D50. I also have a Sony A350. Both of the aforementioned cameras do great pictures but they are bulky and they are heavy with lens attachments that do anything close to what this compact outfit does. I walk a lot about lakes where thee are a variety of Eagles, Ospreys, hawks, and water fowl. I can whip out my P90, and fill a frame with an eagle on a limb and freeze it. I've decided to make the P90 my main "carry along" camera for my walks where I might see a bird or animal I want to capture. I highly recommend it. One thing I was caught off guard by is that it uses the newer HC SD cards, which won't work in the Nikon D50 and may not work in older memory card readers either. I found that out quickly trying to import pictures into my computer to edit. Get a new SD card reader when you buy the camera. The camera also does NOT come with a memory card, I assume to hold down the buying price. A 2 GB card is plenty of capacity. Why buy a 4 GB or higher when your battery capacity won't begin to fill it.

"Great Photo Quality!! Poor portability!" 2010-04-08

By Tuyen Tran (New Orleans, LA)

I've had the camera for a few months now. Took the camera out on 3 occasions. Once downtown to test drive the camera. Loved the 24x zoom. Stood on the 16th floor of the hotel and took shots of downtown New Orleans. Picture quality was awesome. Second test drive was to my daughters fashion show. The outdoor shots were amazing. Indoor during the fashion show was horrible. Not sure if it was me, but I couldn't get any of the settings to give me a decent shot. Let me state this, I am a novice photographer at best. I'm sure skills may play a major role here. The third test was taking the camera to Disney World. Again, the zoom and tilt screen came in really handing when trying to get a good shot of the characters during the parade. I was able to raise the camera above the crowds and just tilt down to aim my shots. The zoom switch was great for one hand handling. The auto focus or anti-shaking function (whatever it's called) saves the day. Having said all that, I always returned the camera to the carrying case when it wasn't in use which made it a bit of a hassle to try to snap something when I was on the rides. Only 2 stars for portability. Think I'll have to invest in a point and shoot pocket size cam. So, long story short. I highly recommend this camera.

     "mostly very good" 2010-04-05

By Doris mac Donnell (Florida USA)

Over all, I am very pleased; but am disappointed with the clarity of long range shots. at full 24 X or close, the focus is not that good.

This is the best camera I have ever had. Easy to use. Once you read the manual, it is amazing the things this little guy can do. A WINNER!!!!!

"There are WAY Better Cameras for the Same Price!" 2010-03-17

    By Julie Hockensmith

Why have manual functions if they create terrible photos? I am an avid photographer and have used the comparable Canon SX10IS for years. It has taken some amazing photos all over the world. The photo quality of this Nikon does not even come close to being comparable to it yet the cost and size of both cameras are. I wanted to upgrade so I decided to try this Nikon since I am still not wanting to go SLR and because it has seemingly better specs (i.e. 12MP, a longer Optical zoom, bigger LCD, and a greater focal length range). Do not be fooled!! This means nothing to the actual picture quality. I returned this right away and bought the newer version of my old Canon - the SX20IS. Perhaps you can get decent pictures using Auto on the Nikon, but don't waste your money when there are plenty of cheaper and SMALLER Point-and-Shoot cameras that take the same quality of pictures (if not better). Also, when using manual settings there is no preview in the display so you have to guess (much like most SLRs). If you're looking for something in between a P&S and an SLR (meaning both good auto and good manual functions), then buy the Canon SX20IS!! You will in no way be disappointed!! With this Nikon, you will only waste your money!
