I picked this (S220) up on sale at a local brick & mortar store and am quite happy with it. What others here are complaining about in terms of picture quality, or lack of, can easily be corrected by referring to your User's Manual (p.93)! In 'Auto' mode go to 'Menu' and 'Image Mode' to select 'High (3648*)' for even better quality photos. ('10m*' should then show in your monitor window during shooting, lower right). This mode will use up much more memory on your memory card due to increasing compression ratio, though it's worth every pixel. Change ISO to '80'. Hope this helps.
Really, this teeny little camera does very well for it's size, which is why I bought it... to shove in my pocket. Both video and photos transfer to my laptop effortlessly. I'm pleased.
Rating is 4, as this camera is not optimal out-of-the-box with factory settings and only marginally better with customizing.

I had a Nikon before a coolpix 5600, GREAT camera!!!! the pictures were great, I barely had to fix them. I waited for this camera so long!!! Because unfortunately mine was stolen, and I was happy because I thought this might be even better. This camera is awfull, all the pictures are grainy no matter how good the light is if not then they're blurry!!!! I wish I had never bought it :( This is the worst shop ever!! And now that I'm trying to get my old one costs $399!!!!! I will continue looking for that one.

Nikon Coolpix S550 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Plum)
EXCELLENT CAMERA: We own 3 professional cameras, but needed a lightweight, portable, quality camera to simply carry everywhere (for example beach means sand and who wants to go to the beach or for a ride on a motorcycle, or walk along a long boardwalk burdened with heavy bags of camera equipment?). Surprisingly the quality of the Nikon Coolpix S550 is "almost" on par with our other professional cameras for general photo taking. Perfect for quick newspaper shots, quick travel shots and 10MP studio shots. The zoom is only 3x but fine for general closeups. Nikon point and shoot zoom on two cameras I've owned is not their best feature. It is also a bit shaky, so I carry it on a lightweight, collapsible monopod. (National Geographic NGTM1 Tundra Monopod with Head and Quick Release Plate 785PL). If you experiment with the settings and scenes you can "mimic" manual in some cases. The smile detection is a bit annoying at times, but...it is a point and shoot camera. A fun, high quality, multifunctional, lightweight, hard working little camera. Buying another one for hubby for our next journey.
